Three years ago when my husband and I first got this coffee table, we wanted to paint something on the surface. Nothing seemed to be quite right, so the project slowly got pushed aside. After finishing the arts and crafts style dining room table, I was once again inspired to find a design for the coffee table.
To start, I sanded the top – taking it back to the bare wood. Once the dark finish was gone, the unique pattern of the wood was revealed. Not wanting to completely cover the wood grain again with the design we had finally chosen, it was back to the drawing board. In the end, I stained the outer edge to match the original color, thus highlighting the center pattern. With a new stencil design drawn, the project was at long last almost done. A couple clear coats sealed the top again, protecting it from daily use.
Sometimes projects take awhile to finish, but it was worth the wait.
